Last year I started a project that was loosely about contrived nature, how we live within nature and shape it to fit within our lives, rather than the other way around. I never finished it. These three are a few from the series, a series I can see myself continuing when I have a little more time to myself. The top one of the whales will be appearing in next years edition of The Kiwi Diary.

A group of us had planned a walk along Whatipu beach on Sunday, and although the weather was awful we went anyway. At the end of it, wet feet, socks, trousers and bodies we had the best fish n’ chips ever at the Huia Store. Battered mushrooms with cream cheese mmmmm!

Not quite my cup of tea, but if nothing else you’ve got to admire them for carrying the green theme throughout!

Of late my posts have been becoming a bit sporadic. Although I started this blog primarily as a window to wedding photography, I mentioned early on in the blog that I would post photos of any nature….since, I am after all a photographer. Not only a wedding photographer, but a photographer who has a few commercial clients, does assisting on the odd occasion for some great photographers, as well as takes photographs for my personal work.
I really like the idea of continually communicating my ideas through this site, it’s a great motivation for me when I am busy doing lots of forward planning but not taking a whole lot of photos.
Wedding photography. The challenge is that it is the skill of capturing many moments that aren’t scripted. That calls for a whole lot of initiative and quick-thinking on the photographer’s part with the ability to view a scene unfolding in front of them, and then translate the message through an image and nothing else. So in that way, regardless of the purpose of a photograph, a good photograph communicates and strikes a chord.

Here’s a few shots from a family portrait session I had a few weeks ago with the Rontondo-Joint family. We had lots of fun, kept it pretty loose and casual which is the way I like to work, especially with kids – who don’t like to be kept in one position for very long at all! I gave the guys a few ideas of locations before the shoot and on the day we headed down to a local beach which is pretty near and dear to them.

Last night Eva and I had the opening for our show “Paradise Remembered”, it was a great night and a nice turnout with a mix of friends, peers and lecturers. Unfortunately in the mad rush of trying to get dressed, food ready, statements printed, and all that jazz I forgot to bring my camera (ha!) and so didn’t capture any photographs of actual people taking in the show (mental note for next time). So this morning when all was quiet we headed along to Snowwhite Gallery to check it out. While we were at it, we headed out to Corbans Estate Art Centre Gallery which is where my other work is being shown in the group show Matariki. So, if you can’t get along in person, here’s some photos from both shows so you can be there in spirit!

This lovely fella here is my husband. Edwin. Yesterday I took some photos of him for his profile on The Pond….a creative freelancer agency. Not only is he cute, he’s a very talented writer and a brilliant daddy. Edwin & I don’t get to collaborate very often, and we had a fun time with this shoot. Music up loud with me trying to restrain Edwin from his inclination towards releasing his rock singer alter ego (doesn’t make for good photos). We work in the same space, but on different projects and like any partnership, I help him, he helps me. But mostly it’s just both of us head down glued to our respective computer screens, so it was nice to get up, get moving and work together again.

As part of the Auckland Festival of Photography I’m very excited to announce the opening of my exhibition in collaboration with Eva Kozub. Eva and I studied together, she’s a brilliant and talented photographer, and I’m honoured to have my work hanging alongside hers. We’re having an opening next Tuesday 22nd from 5pm if you can make it!
Here’s a link to our listing on the Photography Festival website, and while you’re there have a look at some of the other inspiring exhibitions.
Firstly, I have to say aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghh! There’s no way I intended to be away from the blog from this long…I’ve been really busy living another life for the past few weeks and haven’t had a chance to post anything. So this is just a quick update to let you know that I’ve got some work featured in two exhibitions as part of the Auckland Festival of Photography – my favourite part of the arts calendar year. The first show is opening this Wednesday and as part of the Matariki Exhibition at Corbans Estate Art Centre, so if you’re in the neighbourhood come along…..and more on my other show coming soon.

When I’m not shooting weddings or commercial work, I’m also the stills photographer for TV3 series The Nation. It airs on Saturday mornings from 11am-12pm and features a weekly roundup of current affairs. The programme usually has great art content as well.

I apologise for the lack of posts lately, my head is down and my tail is up furiously working on photos. Hopefully I’ll have something to show and tell soon!!
Also, this week I graduated, yep the official graduation with gown, cap and everything. I even got honours! Three long years of slog balancing family, relationships with full time study and making some great friends along the way. Honours was definitely icing on the cake.
If you’ve ever been to the South of the South Island, you’ll know it doesn’t get much more Scottish here in Aotearoa at least. Got back last night after a very chilly but beautiful refresher of the Southern Isles…..
We stayed at the Waiau Hotel in Tuatapere, Quintin & Pat were THE best hosts, and beat this – Whitebait patties for breakfast! A very kiwi time spent in the sausage capital of New Zealand (yes it’s true), and I can emphatically say not another sausage will be eaten for some time to come. I have well and truly had my quota.

I was very fortunate to attend the wedding of Veronica and Matt on the weekend, here is just a small taste of what is to come…..
