It’s ready!

So it’s taken quite a lot of time to get it up and running, but it’s finally ready and I’m pleased to announce that my wedding website is finished! Well, not completely, because it’ll be a work in progress but it’s great to finally have my images up in one place & I think the site better reflects who I am now as a photographer. I shall be keeping this one here too, although I haven’t quite figured out how to use it best yet, I still need somewhere to showcase my editorial work as I’ll be focusing on that once I’ve achieved the wedding photography goals. Things are a changing around here…..I thought it was time to have a website that better reflected my work, so in the not too distant future I’ll be launching my brand spanking new site. Watch this space.

This lovely fella here is my husband. Edwin. Yesterday I took some photos of him for his profile on The Pond….a creative freelancer agency. Not only is he cute, he’s a very talented writer and a brilliant daddy. Edwin & I don’t get to collaborate very often, and we had a fun time with this shoot. Music up loud with me trying to restrain Edwin from his inclination towards releasing his rock singer alter ego (doesn’t make for good photos). We work in the same space, but on different projects and like any partnership, I help him, he helps me. But mostly it’s just both of us head down glued to our respective computer screens, so it was nice to get up, get moving and work together again.

As part of the Auckland Festival of Photography I’m very excited to announce the opening of my exhibition in collaboration with Eva Kozub. Eva and I studied together, she’s a brilliant and talented photographer, and I’m honoured to have my work hanging alongside hers. We’re having an opening next Tuesday 22nd from 5pm if you can make it!

Firstly, I have to say aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghh! There’s no way I intended to be away from the blog from this long…I’ve been really busy living another life for the past few weeks and haven’t had a chance to post anything. So this is just a quick update to let you know that I’ve got some work featured in two exhibitions as part of the Auckland Festival of Photography – my favourite part of the arts calendar year. The first show is opening this Wednesday and as part of the Matariki Exhibition at Corbans Estate Art Centre, so if you’re in the neighbourhood come along…..and more on my other show coming soon.

When I’m not shooting weddings or commercial work, I’m also the stills photographer for TV3 series The Nation. It airs on Saturday mornings from 11am-12pm and features a weekly roundup of current affairs. The programme usually has great art content as well.

The water that is.

I spent a day with the folk at one of the five dams that I live very close to. The catchments that contain a large proportion of Auckland’s drinking water.

Aside from their practical purposes, the dams are beautiful spaces surrounded by wildlife and they are run by a group of old guys nearing retirement who also live on site.

A new life.

Before I embarked into the world of the student for a second go at learning, I did a short stint as a teacher aid for four burmese refugee boys. At the time they were the youngest refugees ever to be admitted into New Zealand. Those boys struck a chord a real chord with me, so as one of my photography projects I did a series at the Mangere Refugee Centre. This is the first place refugees arrive when they come to New Zealand, and there they stay for six weeks to learn about as much as you can learn about a new culture, before they start off in their new life. It was a privilege to be able to photograph these people, and an area that I hope to be able to work in further. This series won the Metro/Canon Young Photographers Award for Best Documentary.

The Royal Easter Show

It’s coming up to the time of The Royal Easter Show here in Auckland, which I find a really surreal place, full of wonder and oddity. However, this year I won’t be going.

I have a very good reason. Sausages.

I will be in Tuatapere, the absolutely other end of the country for Easter. AKA, Tuatapere, Sausage capital of New Zealand.

Yes, quite a claim.

Luckily I’ll be covering a wedding, not the sausages.
