Of late my posts have been becoming a bit sporadic. Although I started this blog primarily as a window to wedding photography, I mentioned early on in the blog that I would post photos of any nature….since, I am after all a photographer.

Here’s a few shots from a family portrait session I had a few weeks ago with the Rontondo-Joint family. We had lots of fun, kept it pretty loose and casual which is the way I like to work, especially with kids – who don’t like to be kept in one position for very long at all! I gave the guys a few ideas of locations before the shoot and on the day we headed down to a local beach which is pretty near and dear to them.

This lovely fella here is my husband. Edwin. Yesterday I took some photos of him for his profile on The Pond….a creative freelancer agency. Not only is he cute, he’s a very talented writer and a brilliant daddy. Edwin & I don’t get to collaborate very often, and we had a fun time with this shoot. Music up loud with me trying to restrain Edwin from his inclination towards releasing his rock singer alter ego (doesn’t make for good photos). We work in the same space, but on different projects and like any partnership, I help him, he helps me. But mostly it’s just both of us head down glued to our respective computer screens, so it was nice to get up, get moving and work together again.

These are a few shots from a series I shot covering the retired community.

It was a revealing project that dispelled a lot of my own misconceptions about what happens when you stop working.

Some of them proved hard to shoot, only because we had to work around their extremely busy timetable in order to fit a shoot in!

A daily dose of soap.

My husband is a writer on the show and a while back I took these portraits of actors Adam Ricketts and Ben Mitchell.

Scouting for locations turned out to be the most challenging part of these shots. After scouring many possibilities for Adam’s shot, trying to play on the fact that Adam had just arrived into New Zealand from the UK (he used to be on Coronation Street), the location I picked turned out to be just down the street from where we lived. Ben looked perfectly at home surrounded by fit male mannequins!

These people love to dress up. Not just on the weekend, or for a fancy dress party.

Most of them are involved in role playing societies or reenactment groups. I found the subject quite thought provoking.

What made them even more striking was the fact that most of them spent countless hours on their ‘costumes’…forging, sewing, turning ice-cream container lids into jewellery, their creativity was amazing.
